Young Adults Join Mission Team to Evangelise Youth
A new Archdiocesan initiative is helping young adults discover the joy of sharing their faith with youth in our parishes, by placing them at the heart of parish mission.
The Youth Mission Team is a group of young adults formed and sent to lead retreats in parishes across the Archdiocese. The team is given a full programme of initial and ongoing formation, equipping them to confidently and joyfully evangelise younger peers across the diocese.
His Grace Archbishop John Wilson said:
“The Diocesan Mission Team is a vibrant sign of the generosity, commitment and faith of young adults in our Archdiocese. Through joyful witness, they are helping younger people to encounter the living Lord Jesus. The formation they receive is not only shaping them as missionary disciples, but also helping them discern their vocation and how the Lord is calling them to serve Him in the Church. When I became Archbishop, I said I did not come to manage decline but to lead with hope. The launch of the Mission Team is one of the reasons I remain full of hope for the future of our Archdiocese.”
Lucy Treloar, Mission Team Coordinator, said:
‘What makes this Mission Team unique is its flexibility, designed to empower young adults to participate in evangelising work and leadership alongside their studies or employment. This opens the door for many who otherwise never had the opportunity to experience mission, offering them a way to grow in faith and community, serve young people and discern how God may be calling them to live their vocation’
Each retreat includes catechesis from a priest, engaging talks, games, small-group discussions, prayer, Eucharistic Adoration, and time to build Christian community. It’s a vibrant blend of faith and fun, designed to help young people encounter Christ and deepen their relationship with Him.
